PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy explains how Mission Transition AI LLC ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use missiontransitionai.org (the "Service"). We built this platform for the military community, and we treat your information the way we'd want ours treated.

1. Information We Collect

• Account information: your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider — we cannot read it).
• Profile information you provide: first name, branch of service, rank, AFSC/MOS, separation or transfer date, years of service, transition path (e.g., separating, retiring, Palace Chase/Front), and optional contact details such as a phone number and contact preferences.
• Content you submit to AI features: text you enter into tools like the Resume Translator, Interview Coach, financial Q&A, and the AI chat assistant.
• Usage information: counts of AI feature usage (used to administer plan limits) and your subscription plan status.
• Payment information: handled entirely by Stripe. We receive only your email, the plan purchased, and payment status — never your card details.
• Account storage: your profile and checklist progress are stored securely in our database and linked to your account, so your data follows you across devices. A copy is also cached in your browser's local storage (along with chat history) for speed; logging out clears the local copy from the device.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we do not request classified or operationally sensitive information. Please do not enter such information into the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate the Service: authenticate you, personalize your timeline and AI guidance, and enforce plan limits.
• To process payments and link purchases to your account.
• To send transactional email: account confirmation, password resets, and important service notices.
• To send occasional product updates and offers relevant to your transition (you can opt out of marketing email at any time via the unsubscribe link or by emailing us).
• To improve the Service, fix problems, and keep it secure.

3. Who Processes Your Data (Our Service Providers)

We share information only with the vendors required to run the Service, only for the purposes described here:

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. If we are required to disclose information by law (e.g., a valid legal request), we will disclose only what is legally required.

4. AI Content — A Plain-English Note

When you use AI features, the text you enter (plus relevant profile context like your rank and branch) is transmitted to our AI provider to generate your response. Treat AI inputs like any online form: don't include Social Security numbers, full medical records, classified material, or anything you wouldn't want processed by a third party. The AI's responses are informational only — verify anything important with official sources.

5. Data Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will delete your account and associated personal data from our systems within 30 days, except records we must retain for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (e.g., payment records held by Stripe).

6. Your Rights & Choices

• Access & portability: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: update your profile anytime in the portal, or ask us to correct inaccuracies.
• Deletion: request full account and data deletion.
• Marketing opt-out: unsubscribe from marketing email at any time; transactional emails (receipts, password resets) will still be sent.

To exercise any of these rights, email veteran@missiontransitionai.org from your account email address. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights under state privacy laws; we honor the rights above for all members regardless of state.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information: encrypted connections (HTTPS) throughout the Service, hashed passwords, server-side access controls with row-level security on our database, and secrets stored in protected server environments. No system is 100% secure, but we take this seriously — if we ever discover a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify affected members promptly.

8. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser local storage and essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your progress on your device. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

9. Not a Government Website

Mission Transition AI LLC is a private company. This Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, or any government agency. Never treat this Service as an official channel for government business.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we change this Policy, we'll post the update here with a new "Last updated" date and notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice.
